Need Volunteers for the next CERT Outreach Event – Asian Fair, May 8th and 9th

Fairfax County CERT has been given another opportunity to exhibit and communicate the CERT and Are You Ready? programs to another portion of the diverse Fairfax County community. The Fairfax County Office of Public Private Partnership has coordinated with the Asian Community Services Center to have a CERT display booth included in the Asian Fair 2010 Celebration at the Luther Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church on Saturday (May 8th, 10:00am -7:00pm) and Sunday (May 9th, 11:00am-7:00pm). This is FREE indoor cultural event that promises live entertainment, a variety of food vendors, cooking workshops, and plenty of exposure to cultural diversity and local businesses. See www.AsianFair.DC for more details.

We will need at least one CERT team of two to staff the booth, answer questions and demonstrate some of your basic CERT skills during the Fair hours. Can you provide just 4 hours of your time on either day to promote CERT and show the value of being a prepared member of the community? The new protocol for CERT events is to have an overall Event Incident Commander (IC) to coordinate with the host, establish tasks and schedule volunteers. There will then be an on-scene IC or Team Leader (each day) to coordinate the schedule, tasks and accountability. This is a great opportunity to become “IC” qualified for future events and learn more about reaching into the community to promote CERT.

Contact the Event IC, James (CERT 32), for more details and to schedule your desired shift/schedule. Indoor event – only need your CERT vest and CERT enthusiasm – PPE and backpack optional if you would like to show some ‘duct tape’ skills or do a “show-and-tell”.

Thanks for your continued support

James,
CERT Outreach Coordinator
