FAIRFAX, Va. — Learn about fire safety and support Fairfax firefighters and their families by attending a football game played by fire and police personnel. The 2010 National Public Safety Football League (NPSFL) season opens in Fairfax with a game pitting the Washington DC Generals against the Orlando Guardians. The NPSFL is a full-contact football league.

Before the game, city fire personnel will have public safety equipment —fire trucks, educational trailers and more — in the high school parking lot for tours and information. Also, a classic rock band, Nocturnal Rush, will be performing.

Other activities include a fire department pipes and drums corps and a public safety color guard. The All-Star Legacy Dance and Cheer Team will perform during half-time. The halftime show will be dedicated to the Fairfax County’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Team, which deployed to Haiti in the aftermath of the recent earthquake.

Tickets cost $5 per person, and children age 12 and younger attend for free. Proceeds will be donated to the City of Fairfax Firefighters Benevolent Fund, DC Firefighters Burn Foundation and the Washington DC Chapter Concerns of Police Survivors.

The after-game party will be held at the Fairfax Hard Times Café and Cue, 4069 Chain Bridge Road, with food and drink specials and raffles. A portion of proceeds from this event will benefit the three charities as well.
